Where Do I Start?

Take stock and create a system.

Lets talk about what I mean by take stock. You have to know where the starting block is before you start the race. So it's time to throw open the closet doors, literally, and get in there. Do you know what you own? Really know. How many pairs or jeans? How many black tees? Now is the time to find out.

I know everyone tells you this but touch it all. Start trying it on, yes even that pencil shirt you bought 2 years ago for that one occasion. Does it fit, no? Gone. Into a pile to decide what to do with later, we will get to that.

Now do exactly what they all say. Four piles, keep, maybe, donate/sell/toss, mend (again we will get to it later). The only things that that go in "Keep" are the ones you put on and could absolutely not see yourself with out. It fits, it makes you feel like you, and you reach for it consistiently.

Toss (we are going to try to avoid that), donate, sell, will be your next easiest pile. It doesn't fit, stop keeping it. Not your color? Doesn't fit your lifestyle? Is it out of style (more on this later too)? Yes I know fashion is cyclical, but really are you waiting for those fringe cold should sleeves to come back?

Maybe is tough. You recently wore it, but can you remember tugging it into place a few times? This hot date night jeans you only reach for once a month. That stylish top you dropped your giftcards on that you love on everyone else. Lets just put these in a bin, box, tote and move them out of sight for now. No reason to be scared this are things you can always come back to, but right now follow your gut.

Okay put all that stuff you love back and lets start wearing! On repeat!

Start a note on your phone. Create a page on your journal. Put  a scrap of paper by your closet. Heck if your the type start and Excel Spreadsheet.  Title it 20in2020 and go join me on Instagram and Slack. See you there!
